Our sail from Isle of Wight to East Anglia was one of our top three best ever
sails so far. Everything worked in our favour; the wind, tide, currents and even
the weather decided to co-operate. The day before we had
50-60 knot winds and the weeks following were horrid. It was also one of
our fastest sails – 180 miles in 29 hours.
After 18 months on the Isle of Wight it was good to move on. We have both been
working on the island and have agreed there’s no place quite like it. It has
many positives and negatives.
Marno’s firm valued his employ so much that they agreed to relocate him as close
to our desired destination as possible. We were originally planning to moor in
the City of London, but circumstances took us to North Fambridge in Essex, a
beautiful area on the River Crouch, surrounded by farmland and national heritage
land, recognised as ‘outstanding natural beauty’. Here there are nearly 4,000
miles of public footpaths stretching between villages, across mores and along
rivers.
Shelley finds herself enjoying working in the executive suit of a FTSE 100
company in Mayfair, London within a mile of Buckingham Palace.
Now that we’re on the
mainland, visiting the continent is a much easier exercise, and we’ve made use
of it. Calais is only a few hours away, Paris barely 5 hours by road. We hope to
make several more land trips to the Continent
before we depart.
