We had a fantastic weekend in Holland, where we met other Freedom owners.
We found the Dutch to be very warm, friendly and hospitable people, who spoke
English fluently (we feel handicapped only speaking one language, when these
guys speak 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 languages with ease).
We, as usual forgot to pull the camera out and take photo's of all the
Freedoms rafted together and the people attending, although we have been
promised to be able to steal some other peoples pictures. I will post them
when we get them.
"So, why didn't you sail across the channel to Amsterdam?" We hear that
question alot. Time, is the only real answer. We're both restricted by our jobs
at the moment. But meeting these Freedom owners had us thirsting for the
cruising life again.
The weather was just glorious. It's hard to believe, having been grey and
miserable in England for the last 12 months, that blue sky and sunshine still
exist elsewhere in the world. Unfortunately, we didn't arrive to partake in any
sailing. Events seemed to conspire against us, so that we didn't arrived in time
to help cast off. However, meeting with like minded people was so refreshing,
bringing to mind the many wonderful Beer O'Clocks we've had on board Attitudes.
Apparently there are around 60 Freedoms in Europe. We saw 11 of those over
the weekend, including 35's, 38, 40's in both centre and aft cockpit and 44's.
Two of the 44's were US built, while the others were built in Europe. And of
course there was debate among the owners around centre-boards. Some like them.
Some don't.
The following pictures were taken by Michel Capel who gave his permission to
post them.
